2 router 1 ssid

In my house all my computers are as far away from the phone
sockets as they can get, so for my wireless network i have a extension cable going up the stars to the router, which is connected to the "server" with an Ethernet cable, it is an old 802.11b router and the speed is terrible, i want to move the router next to the phone line so i don't have to have the phone cable running up the stairs, but that will mean the "server" is disconnected from the network, i don't want to buy a wifi card for it as it is too old and slow for it to be practical for it to have one, so i was wondering if i could have the current router downstairs, with the ssid set to "internet" for example, then buy an new g router and plug hat directly into the "server", set the same ssid then would it act as one network? or would the 2 ssid's just conflict with each other?

If this wouldn't work what is the most practical/cheapest way of doing it?

Thanks, Lee

doesnt work... I mount my wireless router in the hallway on the wall, all the way up against the roof! This is great coverage all ofer the house.. try different location, or a wireless range extender.
