2+2=2?

Hi, I was wondering if 2, 2.1 soundcards (one onboard, one pci) where put into a pc with 2, 2.1 speakers would I be able to get 4.1/4.2 suround sound?

No. You can get 4.x sound via a single soundcard supporting at least 4.x
 
So I cant get 4.x output what about input, not 4.x input but just 4 lines of input that splooge together more or less into mono or sterio? And would the output be the same on the two cards? or would only one card work at a time?
 
Well some applications allow you to target audio output to a specific device so yeah you could have multiple outs simultaneously but most dont.
 
I'll tell you right now that you can't get quadrophonic-(because there is no seperate sub output) sound out of two stereo sound cards, it just doesn't work that way.
