1 motherboard 2 different GPUs

I have a workstation in the lab that runs centOS4 and has 2 pci-e slots. 1 is already occupied with a NVS quadro 290, the other one empty. Then I got my hand on a 9800GT, which i suspect is broken, and I want to plug the 9800GT into the other pci-e slot and see if there is anything coming out of its VGA port without removing the NVS quadro or installing any new drivers for 9800GT.
Would this work?

All I want to know is, if my 9800GT is working properly, do I need to remove/disable the NVS Quadro Card on the motherboard to make the 9800 display anything?

thanks

All you have to do is take out the quadro and insert the 9800gt and see if it gets video signal, you really don't need to install drivers to test.

Nope... I didn't have to for my 9800GT.

but did u install the drivers for it to work properly side by side with the other gpu of yours?

the only reason i asked is b/c its a lab computer that i am trying the gpu on, so i want to do a plug in-and-out for a quick test, i don't want to unplug anything or install any new drivers.

thanks for replying
