go from SD to SSD on RaspberryPi

dear community,

well i have a Rpi 4 - and for years now i runned it with a sd card.

but - nowadays - and with the Rpi4 we have got some more options; we can go further.

so the actual question to me is: Does it make sense to switch from SD to SSD on the rpi4?
What would be the argument for switching the SD card for an SSD?

Well a SSD is at least a little faster than an SD card. This means that the Raspberry Pi boots faster with it.
My use case: I have a small NAS on the Pi in addition to Apache.

What do you think about this topic?

Hmm - the data transfer would also be a little faster.

I stopped using pis, but for me the main argument is reliability. I had to rebuild the sdcard fairly frequently and it was annoying.

Well i have some pis here. ,,,
dear Cromewell - well i want to work with the Pis.

beside the above mentioned use case: with a small NAS on the Pi in addition to Apache, besides this uses
i want to dive into the topic "how to manage power-supply" in interesting projects. (battery-driven-projects and off-grid-projects).

talking about Pi projects off the grid - well they offer a whole world of possibilities and options, from outdoor environmental stations and weather-stations or general monitoring systems.

that said: i strongly belive that the power management has greatly impact on the efficiency and uptime of all the devices i run.
Well - talking aobut the power-consumption of - for example: Pico W i think i can learn alot - with these devices.
the pico - or the Raspberry Pi

Background: I just want to get a sense of the power consumption of the Pico.


dear cromewell - i can fully understand you - that you are unsatisfied with the pi - (and i think there are lots of things i also do not like.

but i want to learn things in the field of electronic and microcontroller so i think its a good option to do this with the raspberry pruducts since they are scattered all over the globe - and the user-community is quite very big.
