Don't think there's a poll like this, Just wanted to see who on Computer Forum overclocks their CPU's...

Why they like it...

Or

Why they disagree with it...

I overclock. I have a pretty low range processor, a 2.0Ghz AMD Athlon 64 3200+, and I really notice a difference when I push it to 2.5Ghz or 2.8Ghz. Just a good way to get a little more time out of my dated machine.

I wouldn't mind trying, but I don't feel like gambling with a Socket A board and CPU when they're now as rare as hen's teeth. I can't afford a new PC.

I can't OC with this 965WH board, I shouldn't have built this one on a tight budget. If I had a good OC'ing board I could trust, I would pull more out of it, it doesn't hurt it. Some ppl say "it decreases life span", and the normal life span is 10yr's(I dunno), they say it decreases it by 2yr's. I don't plan on keeping it for 8yr's anyway.

I got my 6800 GT oced to 435 Mhz using a water cooler The two Opteron 2Ghz processors I read could only be oced 25mhz more so I won't bother over clocking those.

I don't even both. Too lazy really. My computer works fine so I don't mess with it. It ain't broke....

I do occasionally but I'm not someone who has to OC just because I can, usually when I do it's because I'm past the point where I should have upgraded and I want to think everything is running way faster when it's really not that much better.
It ain't broke....
If it ain't broke you're not trying :P

Normally yes, but the weathers been to hot recently so ive had to go back to stock.

Noticed a difference from 2.6 to 1.8?

I see what you mean... So you mean OC'ing doesn't give a huger performance gain?

So true :P

Same here....Mine wont overclock anyway,Not even with Clockgen:D

Hp locked everything up :D

Well it can give you a good perofrmance bump but compare a very highly OCd P4 to a mildly OCd Core 2, or even a stock high end Core 2 :)

There's no competition is there really... I just looked up some benchmarks for an E6300 @ stock and an E6300 @ 2.6Ghz

and it only got like like 20FPS more, so...

With certain things. Windows Startup, loading my winamp playlist (21000+ songs) and playing games. But just using WLM and firefox theres no difference

Ah right, How hot is your CPU running at?

If you dont overclock you need to with a core 2. I have a e6600 overclocked at 3.5 stock 2.4 My video card 8800gtx is also over clocked from 575 to 620. everything is super cool with the zalman cooler and the antec 900. for example 3dmark06 was 9845 with everything stock, overclocking i went to 12381.

You are missing out on free performance if you don't overclock. Contrary to popular believe, overclocking is very safe and if you know what you are doing, you will not fry your hardware very easily.

You don't have a selection for "yes, I overclock, but I don't keep it overclocked all the time :P"
